Clinical Apprentice

Ruqiya is a Master of Psychology candidate at Adler Graduate Professional School, currently completing her practicum at Central Ontario Psychology. She has a strong interest in trauma-informed care and culturally responsive mental health services, with a particular focus on supporting refugee and immigrant populations. Drawing from her academic training and research, Ruqiya integrates evidence-based approaches with empathy and cultural sensitivity to create a safe and collaborative space for clients. Her previous work includes developing and facilitating mental health awareness workshops for refugees at the YMCA in Barrie, as well as specialized workshops for Afghan refugees addressing culturally specific mental health needs. She has also conducted research on barriers to mental health access for Afghan refugees in Canada and has worked on designing support programs tailored to these needs. Ruqiya works with children, adolescents, and adults, providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment. She is committed to meeting clients where they are and helping them navigate challenges in ways that align with their values, strengths, and goals. In addition to English, she is fluent in Dari and Farsi, allowing her to provide services in clients' preferred language when needed. Outside of her clinical work, Ruqiya is married and a mother of two. She enjoys spending time with her family, exploring nature, and engaging in lifelong learning.
